NZB-Tortuga has shut down. It is no longer taking members and the site has gone, so if you searched for it hoping to sign up, or to check whether it was just down for the day, that is your answer. Below is a quick look at what it was, and the NZB indexers we would use instead.
What NZB-Tortuga Was
NZB-Tortuga launched in November 2016. It ran on Newznab, the automated indexing software a lot of NZB sites are built on, and it offered both free and paid accounts. It took Bitcoin for people who wanted to pay anonymously, and it had a good reputation for privacy, with a no-log policy. For a while it was a solid pick.

What To Use Instead
The good news is you are not short of options. These are the indexers we would point you at now.
NZBGeek
The closest thing to a safe default. It is paid only these days, but at $12 a year it is about as cheap as a paid indexer gets, and the API plugs straight into Sonarr, Radarr and SABnzbd. Our NZBGeek review goes through the pricing properly.
DrunkenSlug
Reliable, well run and with a big community behind it, but it is invite only most of the time. If you can get in, it is worth having. We explain how to get a DrunkenSlug invite.
NZBPlanet
Free accounts are invite only right now, but you can buy a premium account directly without an invite, which makes it one of the easier good indexers to get into today. See our NZBPlanet review.
If you would rather start without paying anything, our list of free NZB indexers covers the ones still worth trying, and the full comparison is on our best NZB sites page.
You Still Need A Usenet Provider
Whichever indexer you land on, it only finds the files. To actually download them you need a Usenet provider, which is a separate account. If you were using NZB-Tortuga you probably have one already, but if you are starting fresh, UsenetServer is the one we recommend most, at $5.99 a month for 12 months plus 3 free. If you would rather search and download in a browser with no newsreader and no indexer at all, Easynews does both in one place.
Easynews is our top choice among the best NZB search options. It is a complete all-in-one solution that includes unlimited high-speed Usenet access plus a Usenet search interface with the most accurate Usenet search results. The interface is easy to use — just log into your Easynews account, enter your query into the search bar, and hit enter.
