Re: Finger amputation and reattachment

I'm not sure if this would be the right group for this question, but
here it goes...

I'm planning the amputation and reattachment of my right pinky finger,
and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to make it look
like an accident. Are there any locations or angles that are most
common in knife accidents? Also, what is the best way of storing the
amputated finger for the best chances of reattachment?

Well if you are intent on it let me explain what I went through. I cut through all but a flap of my index finger on my right hand with a trim saw.

The initial strike was not all that painful but the blood flow was very significant. Shock started setting in rather quickly and I was fortunate it happened at work or I would have had a great deal of trouble getting to the hospital. At the hospital I went to surgery where they immediately tacked the major arteries together and largest veins in place. And stiched the piece back on then booked an appointment with a finger surgen for the next day.

I went in and went through 6 hrs of micro surgery to reattach it. Once that was done and the pain killers wore off the pain was indescribable and was just the start of it. 6 months of physical therapy followed that some of which was the most painful experiances I can describe. You see when they reattach all the tendons are short so they have to systematically re streach them. This hurts none too little.

This was 2 yrs ago. I still have no sensation in that finger. I have limited motion but have done very well considering 80% is considered great. But believe me you miss that last 20%. I have daily pain that I have for the most part learned to ignore. <The nerves still misfire and hurt like hell>.

Oh and about the bill. The cost to my employer was just under $60,000.00 so I would check with your insurance to see what they will cover. Even with 80% coverage your out of pocket will likely run about $12,000.

Also please don't use public health for this I don't want to pay for your volentary mod. It is your choice but also is mine wether my tax $ should fund it.
