NEMIS@Musicworks - CCA Glasgow 30-31 Oct 2003 These events are free to all on a walk-up basis!




NEMIS will be running a series of Grassroots Music Workshops  & Showcases in
the CCA - 350 Sauchiehall Street Glasgow on Thursday & Friday 30/31st
October 2003, to compliment those of the Musicworks Conference that is being
held in Glasgow, during this period. www.musicworksuk.com

The aim of these workshops is to allow people considering a career in the
Scottish Music Industry, who are not at the experience level or in a
financial position to benefit from Musicworks, to get grassroots information
on key areas of the business, from industry professionals.
The aim of the Music Showcases is to promote the some cool young
Scottish/Dutch Bands/Artists.

1200 - 1300 on Thursday 30th October 2003 - "With a Little Help from My
Friends"

Industry Experts Tell You How They Can Help "The aim of this seminar is to
make those attending aware of the various support they may look for from
agencies like MCPS, PRS, MU, New Deal, SE, Further Education and NEMIS. The
session will last 60 minutes and each panel member will be asked to briefly
outline what they do and what support they can give before answering
questions from the floor".

Introduction to MusicTank www.musictank.co.uk

"The aim of this discussion panel is to provide those attending with proof
positive that there has never been a better time for a DIY approach for
aspiring artists, managers and labels at grass roots level. The session will
be hosted by MusicTank and will include a brief presentation of their new
music industry web portal. The panel will comprise a cross-section of
Scottish-based promoters, tour management, artists and managers".

Band Workshop

"The aim of this seminar is to give those attending a basic insight into how
a rock band interacts musically and to allow participants a chance to ask
questions about playing in a band and to try out some basic skills. The
session will take place in the CCA 5, last 90-120 minutes and backline will
be provided".

Faker" - Taking a Look at Music Journalists

"The aim of this seminar is to provide those attending an opportunity to
question the panel on how to become a Music Journalist and what the reality
of the job is. The session will last 60 minutes and each panel member will
be asked to briefly outline what they do and how they got into the
profession, before answering questions from the floor".

My Brain" - Listening to and Giving Feedback on Your Demos

"The aim of this seminar is to allow participants the opportunity to
question panel members about the Demo process and hand in their Demos, to
get real time advice about the quality of their song and why it may or may
not be selected. The session will take place in the CCA Room 4, last 60
minutes and a CD player will be provided".
