First rave

When was the first rave?
Flyer Designs for the American Rave Scene by A Project of the Earth Program
tells me that the first were back in the 1920's in Paris, and then in San
Francisco in the 60's with "Acid Tests "
The more modern roots can be found in England circa 1988.
Any other ideas?
