As a drummer in a pipe band I often end up transcribing rhythms. All I can say is that its usually easier to play the bleeding thing than it is to work out the maths. However, if you want to convey the meaning of the music to other people, and stand some chance of them understanding it, especially if they're remote from you, then the right rhythm is crucial and there's no way round it other than listening and working on that particular skill. Having said that, as I see it, the beauty of tab is that it complements the recording. I've never yet seen a tab which allowed me to have a reasonable stab at playing a tune I don't have on CD / tape etc. .... but then I'm not a *proper* musician ;-) Cheers, Steve W
