I agree it's a serious PITA, but it can, largely, be avoided, with a bit of trouble. I changed my address about 6 months ago, when I got an ADSL connection (to lose the 100+/day spams was certainly a major side benefit, having been giving the old demon address out since long before spam was a problem), and when I set my new domain up I thought about what addresses to give out where. I didn't get it altogether right (which I'm sure will come back at me at some future time) but I got it right enough that I've only had maybe a dozen spams since then. Because any address that receives any can promptly stop working. currently, 2 changes of the one I give out on news postings, nothing else has received any ... touch wood. Which needs a bit of thinking and extra trouble. So maybe what'll happen is that the "easy to use" bubble will burst and it'll all revert to what it was like 10 years ago, when you were expected to be techy and understand things, but with a constant resource drain due to permanent infestation by invisible parasites. And then ISPs will start filtering, and real mail will get lost along with the junk ... coming soon, a patent on Bayesian statistics ... <summary> It's a PITA. -- Richard Robinson "The whole plan hinged upon the natural curiosity of potatoes" - S. Lem If you want my address, put beulah where the spam trap is.
