Hi David, 
"Keep an eye out" (for something), I've always understood as being common to
both my native Northumberland as well as the Scots.

Again, wishing Dick the very best with his cataract treatment... one of the
major medical success stories of the last decade or so!

Soon he'll be able to see both sides the Tweed again (at the same time) and
we'll be able to hear it. (humour also intended)
