Possibly need agent.

Hi people,
I'm currently embarking on playing live gigs in my local area,
basically funded by myself (in other words, hiring a venue and hoping
enough people turn up to cover my costs).
All being well, I'm hoping to branch out into other parts of the
country but I'm wary of doing this myself. It's all very well playing
in your local area where you know the venues and the best places to
promote your gig, but in unfamiliar territory your promotion could be
wasted or worse, you could end up playing some rough hole with bottles
landing on your gear.
So, I'm thinking I should try and get an agent to do this for me.
Any ideas how to get one? I've tried searching on google but it seems
to turn up agents for tribute bands or cabaret acts which are hardly
suitable.
Any advice on this will be greatly appreciated.
I play techno/electro type stuff.
