Aye the Barras is a funny place - just about the perfect venue really - then of course there's Britain's dodgiest flea market right underneath :-) I used to work in a stall at the barras when I was a teenager - selling posters and t shirts. It was quite good although we basically got paid in donuts, posters and steak & gravy scotch pies. Still, the Italian football on Channel 4 and you were away! *sigh* SNIP > >MV are on my "get" list. Any track recommendations? Firstly, might be worth checking out 'At the Drive-in', if you haven't before. Two founder members have gone on to form this new band. Its not exactly the same but it might give you an background history. Probably best check out the single - "Inertiatic Esp", the name of which ought to perhaps ring alarm bells, if thats the sort of thing that alarms your bell... Pretentious? Yes Self-indulgent? Definitely Self-conciously 'odd' and 'obscure'? Undoubtably Much cop? 'Eye of the beholder' but put it this way, they don't mind showing off, they clearly have passion for what they are doing, they aren't afraid of technology, effects or modern production and it isn't someone playing at being the MC5... rejoice in the fact that someone isn't self-conciously trying to be stylistically, trendily crap at playing. Possibly might appeal to closet Marillion fans :-)
