You need to go no further back than the founder of Christianity,
Saul/Paul of Tarsus. A man born outside of the homeland, a self-proclaimed
Roman citizen who persecuted the Jewish Messianists who believed
in the coming "Kingdom of God" (i.e. end of Roman domination),
and opposed any rebellious attitude toward the Romans.
So, of course he would preach that the Jews should "love their enemy"
and they should be obedient to the authorities (See Romans 13).

    The Gospels tend to reflect not the militancy of Jesus, for which
he was captured, tried and executed, but the appeasement of
Saul/Paul, which ultimately made his religion the state-certified
cult of the Empire!
