Perhaps it had to be introduced when women started giving lip, so they could
get away with their new found bad attitudes.



It probably has more to do with the societal guilt over W.W.I and W.W.II. It's the "wounded land" syndrome of the "Fisher King." The subsequent generations of men have been deeply wounded and the wound still bleeds. The 3rd generation of men is beginning to recover from the horror of those massive traumas.
