Bush's 2001 decision on Stem Cell Research

I would like to know some opinions on Bush's 2001 decision to only
allow federal funding on already existing stem cells.  Do believe this
was fair to the scientific community?  Do you think that politics and
science should mix?  Is it unfair to people with diseases such as
juvenile diabetes that research is limited?  Do you believe the
medical field should have more power and freedom in controlling what
is researched?
