Are you saying that the office will not attempt to place you in | SOME kind of work? | Not saying that at all but that the touted worker retraining program that was originally funded via fees on the H1-B program has been ruled out of reach for many of the people displaced. The same applies to the programs for many under the programs intended to retrain those who've lost jobs to off shore manufacturing. The other issue is that even where the unemployment office tries to find work there often is none to be had. I'm told, again third and forth hand info but from sufficient independent sources to lend some credence, that jobs as CNA (certified nursing assistance -- what was once called nursing aids) have a 20 to 1 applicant to opening in the NC area. State employment security is pushing people into training classes for this and the must know that there will be few jobs when these people are certified. Things are so bad that EMTs who are far over qualified are pushing the CNAs out of the running.
