We are ill-served by our news media. Today all of the tv news outlines and the vast majority of the major print newspapers are controlled by large corporations. For these corporations profits is the bottom line; that means you don't anger potential advertisers by adverse news coverage. The US media has grown into an ideal of supposedly unbiased reporting (although the Machinations that occur in the back room before being put before the public tends to censure this supposedly unbias reporting. What we need is "biased" reporting such as is found in the European media, e.g. London's papers. That way when we view a broadcast or pick up a paper we know for certain what it's tilt will be toward -- the government, the people, neo-conservatives, liberals, greens, etc. That is what Murdoch is doing with the Fox News Channel. Since I have a liberal leaning I know not watch Fox News, but unlike the conservatives I don't have a channel or paper (except perhaps the NY Times) that I know will present me with a consistent liberal slant to what is happening in the US and beyond.
