The non-participants are pissed with both parties. Republicans are the
extremists and Democrats are the true conservatives. They resist change.
And clearly they're not an effective front to a highly motivated
Republican party. They are complicit in Iraq, and the formation of a
truly ineffective homeland security feel good solution instead of real
border security.

I do not see the non-participants as left wing however. I think they
lean largely to the left, but in certain aspects such as social programs
associated with the left, they see them as making people more dependent
on government and not expecting enough personal responsibility from
them. I have no problem with progressive taxation and a certain amount
of wealth redistribution for citizens. But I have major problems with
making people dependent on such systems, and the vast amoung of waste
government management brings to such systems. I don't like the complete
lack of expecting people to be responsible for themselves while
collecting public assistance when they are able to do so.

I see a fundamental disconnect between the offerings of the two parties
that has disenfranchised the silent majority in the country.

Chris
