I'd bet that alone would add points to the turnout rate. I can't imagine that a national holiday on election day would be too hard to pass. It a truly patriotic thing to do. What state do you live in? I'd like to draft a bill for it, and propose it right away. >From what I understand the process in the state goes like this: - Draft a basic federal-holiday bill - Call a dozen or so PAC's in your state - Get a few of them to endorse your bill. Request that they print a copy of your bill in their literature, etc. - Call your state senators and congressmen, and tell them which PAC's are endorsing the bill, then ask them to sponsor it. - Once you get a few PAC's and congressmen to sponsor it, the ball will be rolling enough that you'll know what you need to do. Do you know anyone who is experienced with this stuff? I've researched it a few times, but I've never really gotten a bill passed. We need to find someone who's drafted a bill before. Can you search the web for an example of a draft-bill that's been passed? Al we need are five core volunteers committed to working 2-3 hours per week, conference calls, etc.
