Perhaps you are will intentioned rather than a provocateur or 
saboteur so we will politely mention that both
questions are answered on page 1 of Solar power 101, in other
words, read a bit. . . This is really a condemnation
of the corporate media since if they were doing their
job such simple things would be well known to the public.

One place to start is http://www.solareco.com/index.cfm
and to click on Photovoltaics. Note that RealGoods is
not at all the cheapest source so their $/watts aren't the greatest,but
they are probably the most experienced installers/sellers..
