The Struggles For Control Of Disney and Pacifica
by Bill McGinnis, Public Domain
A very important issue is being played out before us now, and that is the
question, "Who Controls The Media?" This issue has particular importance
for us in the USA, because it has been seriously charged that the present
government of Israel, acting through its powerful proxies in high-level
mass media ownership and management, was an instrumental force in pushing
the USA into this idiot war in Irag, and now keeping us there instead of
letting us withdraw immediately.
This issue also permeates the questions of Media Ownership, and how much
influence should any one owner be allowed to have in the Public airwaves.
Two specific stories are now unfolding in this issue, and those are
"Control Of Disney" and "Control Of Pacifica." "Disney" is the well-known
Disney media empire, a major force in American and world culture (for
better or for worse.) "Pacifica" is The Pacifica Foundation, owner of five
radio stations in the USA, and a clear and forceful opponent of the War in
Iraq.
Disney is presently under the leadership of Michael Eisner, but that
leadership is being challenged. Please see Stanley Gold's letter of Dec.
1, 2003, calling for Eisner's resignation.
http://PracticalDemocracy.org/disneyletter.txt .
Pacifica is presently under the leadership of a court-ordered Interim
Pacifica National Board, following an intense and successful struggle to
overthrow the previous Pacifica National Board. Under its new bylaws,
Pacifica will be totally controlled by its members, with one vote per
member. Anyone who joins a local Pacifica radio station automatically
becomes a member of The Pacifica Foundation. All Pacifica stations are
also broadcast on the Internet, so listening is not limited only to those
who live in the five local areas. Elections are now underway for Pacifica
members to select Delegates to each of the five Local Station Boards,
which will ultimately control the Pacifica National Board, and thus
Pacifica Radio.
For details of Pacifica governance and the elections, please see

Pacifica Foundation, please see http://pacifica.org.

Blessings to all who read these words.
