I haven't figured it all out yet but think it's a bad bill, too, with
more benefits for for-profit insurers and health plans and pharma than
for Medicare beneficiaries.
A drug benefit is popular because it's true that drugs are becoming
the most important part of medical care, but it's also true that the
elderly are often overmedicated and as long as doctors have the power
to write endless prescriptions, some will be unnecessary, some will be
too costly, and some drug combinations will kill the patient.
