I'm not sured what you mean by massive amounts of aid.  We had cut off Japans
access to our iron.  And it had a negative impact on their economy. And they
viewed tat as an attack against them. One of the reasons given for their attack
was they were afraid we were going to attack them because of the invastion of
southeast Asia.  They decided to attack our navy as a way of devirting our
attention.
