International Day To End Violence Against Sexworkers

PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO EVERYONE, POST EVERYWHERE, AND SEND TO PRESS.

This is to invite you to a sweet and important event:

The Sex Workers Outreach Project & COYOTE
are sponsoring an
INTERNATIONAL DAY TO END VIOLENCE
AGAINST SEX WORKERS.
A MEMORIAL for murdered prostitutes and a CALL TO ACTION.

Many of us have been deeply saddened by the murders of dozens of
prostitutes by serial killer Gary Ridgeway. He said he killed
prostitutes because they were "easy targets, and no one would report
them missing." He said he thought he could kill as many of them as he
wanted without getting caught. Ridgeway was not the first, and
unfortunately he wonıt be the last killer to prey on sex workers.

Itıs important to show that we care, and to insist on safer working
conditions for the vulnerable sex workers out there today. Together we
can help stop more of these horrible hate crimes.

On December 17, 2003 people will gather to do memorials and actions in
various cities internationally.  Everyone is welcome to participate.
Please join us.

We are also looking for more people to host and produce more events. We
want YOU! Do whatever kind of memorial you would like in your city, and
or a political action.  Or simply do something privately yourself at
home, alone or with a few other people.  Many people will light candles
and observe a moment of silence at 6:00 PM.

You can go online, get more information about these events, and/or
volunteer at www.swop-usa.org.

In San Francisco, we will gather at 5:30 PM in Civic Center Plaza
(behind the California State Building).  Join Scarlot Harlot, Carol
Queen, Margo St. James, Robin Few, Annie Sprinkle, and many others.
Bring your words, songs, and performances, alter items, poems, etc. to
share in our circle.  The memorial will be followed by a reception in
City Hall.
