Why should strait couples need the Government's permission > to have a union? Managing your domestic life is incredibly profitable for the government. As a 'justice' industry, it must be right up there with traffic fines as far as generating money for the State. After seizing ecclesiastical authority to regulate marriage in the first place, government has made divorce ever easier. That gives them the authority to regulate child custody, dispose of property, force debt- all kinds of things that governments like to do. As contracts go, 'marriage' is pretty descriptive. If homosexuals, or polyamorists, or any other 'denied' class want to make a contract- they should make another sort of contract. The benefit from the contract only affects their relationship with the Government in any case; taxes, insurance liability, power of attorney, government benefits. Let them make their contract with the Government; a civil arrangement having nothing to do with an association with a Sacrament in somebody's religion. That's like getting pissed because Jewish cemeteries don't allow other religions to be buried there, or allowing just anything to be called 'kosher'. Affronting religions for no other reason than to tweak a hostile response from people who are supposed to be 'forgiving' and 'tolerant' is a joke. Chas
