Whatever causes the high US homicide rate, it's hard to prove its due to
cultural diversity.

Canada has more foreign-born citizens than the US:

"In March 2002, the civilian noninstitutionalized population of the United
States included 32.5 million foreign born, representing 11.5 percent of the
US population."

"...at 18%, Canada's proportion of foreign-born citizens is the second
highest in the world...The vast majority of recent immigrants are visible
minorities..."

For the year 2000:

Homicide rate in the US: 5.5 per 100,000
Homicide rate in Canada: 1.77 per 100,000

Suicide rate in Canada: 12.3 per 100,000
