We do have those laws: they're called "concealed carry." You see, this is where law-abiding citizens carry firearms and wouldn't you know it? Untold millions of crimes a year are prevented not just because someone showed the bad guy he had a gun and the bad guy ran or maybe even got shot when he persisted in his attack, but just the idea that someone _might_ have a gun, also deters crime. To test this theory, all you need do is post a sign in your window saying: "We believe in Gun Control. This house is unarmed." I'll bet you're afraid to do it, knowing what might happen. That just proves you know you're safer when ordinary people also own firearms.
