The only place from which it was likely fired was a small village next to our depot. That was a few hundred yards away, and was the direction from which we had heard gunshots. The fact that the bullet was found only a few feet from where it impacted indicates that while its path up may not have been perfectly straight, its return path was--or at least very nearly so.
