By DEE-ANN DURBIN, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - States that raised their speed limits to 70 mph or more saw a dramatic increase in the number of people killed in traffic accidents, according to a report released Monday by an auto safety group funded by insurers. <SNIP> The Insurance Institute said there is no doubt, however, that when speed limits increase so do deaths. When the national speed limit of 55 mph was adopted 1974, fatality rates dropped, the Insurance Institute's chief scientist Allan Williams said. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=519&e=12&u=/ap/20031124 /ap_on_re_us/speed_limit_deaths_1 ------------------------------------ This is just what us libbies have been saying for years. You repugs in your SUVs doing 90 mph are murderers and terrorists. Repugs love to talk about being HARD ON CRIME - then they get out on the highways and kill someone with their speeding and say "forget it man - it was an accident". There is no easier way to save lives in america than to lower speed limits back to 55 and imprison the violators. I'm sick of all this criminal coddling.
