The M-16 won't go away very soon. It will take some serious funding to replace it and the models that followed it. There will be some serious testing that will have to be done first and the whole thing will have some politictal interference every step of the way. The rifle part of the OICW has the stigma of not invented here and that could be enough to keep it out of service. The OICW is an amazing piece of technology and I just can't expect something that complicated doing well in service. It will be interesting to see what happens. Have you ever heard of the Special Purpose Individual Weapon? The SPIW was a major project that was suppposed to field a fletchette firing weapon. Lots of time and money were spent with out anything more to show than the M-203 grenade launcher. It could take years to see any results. George in Las Vegas
