France's position regarding the invasion of Iraq is actually supported by the vast majority of the world's people and governments. > but criticism of the country is now coming from an unlikely source - the > French themselves. They make it sound like something new, like the French are now having second thoughts, but this isn't news. In the past year, 20% (or so) of the French have supported the invasion. Chirac was, and still is, in tune with the other 80% who were opposed to a unilateral intervention. Chirac is also in tune with the 90% of the Spaniards and Italians who opposed their government's position on Iraq. > In the last few months, there have been a slew of books published in the > country slamming French policy .... There has been no shortage of books published in the U.S. or the U.K. that violently opposed Bush's and Blair's position on Iraq, Palestine, and other important subjects. Many Americans call Bush "the worst president ever". I don't care much for Chirac, but you don't hear too many people say that about him.
