Valid use for medical marijuana?

I suffer from clinical depression and treat this illness with Effexor. The
problem is that this drug has some serious side-effects - mainly high blood
pressure which causes serious stress in the heart (hypertension).  I am
wondering if I was living in a state which has legalized the medical use of
cannabis, if I can get a doctor to give me a note for treating the side
effects of Effexor with cannabis.

Is this a valid use for medical cannabis?
