drug use by our homeless family members or friends?, lets adopt them

inspired by Adam's "drug use by the homeless" thread.

some of these homeless people have familys, some close and others distant
familys (eg: uncles). i've seen my parents take care of myself while i am
somewhat outof my mind (health down the tube, can't work, until further
notice) and they take care of me, feed and shelter me in the hope that i'll
work out my problems and pick up the ball again. Also i have friends and
aquaintences who do the same, sometiems for people they are not even related
to. but just people they know who are having a tough time and need some
help. they give them cheap accomodation etc. and i guess the money for
this care comes outof their own expense.

i know i would do the same for anyone of my friends, and of course plan on
doing it for my grandparents and parents when they are old enough to need
care themselves.

however...
when i was growing up, i found out a girl i knew in highschool was addicted
to herion and began stealing from her best friend's (whom i knew well)
house. i guess to support her habit. i have also seen this happen in
fictional T.V. shows (who hasn't) so i figure it's a common practice amongst
the addicted. i know what it's like to have dangerously low blood sugars
and great hunger, it's nothing close to an opiate or coke addiction but i
like to think i can sympathise with an addict. if any of my friends was
like these homeless guys, i would take him in. to my house. and i would
PAY for the drugs that they need (yes herion or coke. actually i don't
understand much about coke, is this a good idea?) outof my own pocket. i
would give them a steady controlled supply, just like any medication. they
woudl be medicating themselves (or woudl it be me medicating them? hey
whatever). this way, why would my friend steal from me if he has a constant
supply? i would steal if i needed food or sugar, this is accepted in our
society and i woudl expect anyone to understand and forgive me. stealing
for food is understood but stealing for drugs isn't? can i say "WTF?!".
and just like when my friend was hungry, there's nothing wrong with him
telling me how hungry he is and then eating infront of me. if he needs a
hit, i would expect him to tell me, and then not worry about shooting up
infront of me, he doesn't need to go into the toilet. it's just medication.

the way i see it is: these homeless people are out on the street because of
what? they were caught shooting up in the toilet? they are dirty coz of
their homelessness? they were caught stealing to support their habit?
all of these problems are fixed by living in a clean home, with a friend
(read: guardian), and with a steady pressureless "medical like" supply of
the drugs they need.

i'm diabetic so i "shoot up" all the time, it's perfectly legal. i am
dependant on a drug (insulin) and shoot it subcutaneously 4X a day or more.
no i don't shoot it into a vein, so yes i imagine this is a HUGE advantage
over addicts who need to shoot intraveineously. i inject insulin into
myself in public and there is nothing anyone can do about it, i don't need a
toilet. i do it in the center of a crowded shopping mall with hundreds of
people walking right past (they rubberneck of course, hehe). i do it right
infront of security guards to see the expression on their face.

if the drugs are treated like a medication, then what's the difference? the
only difference i can think of is that you will be shooting into your arm,
or another vein, which may look more "illegal drug like" and less
"medication like". but if you have clean professional looking equip (ie:
not the belt from your pants around your arm) and you tell people that you
are injecting medication, then what are people going to do?

as far as i'm concerned you could leave a normal life.

as far as i know, millions of people, professionals like lawyers.
respectable people (yesyes i know, hit me with the lawyer jokes) go about
their day addicted to drugs IN SECRET, but they have enough money to support
their habit, so they keep their jobs as long as no-one knows. i wish all
people we lucky enough to have the money to spare to be able to constantly
medicate their addictions, but so many people can't. and i don't need to
tell you all about the crime problems that this causes with under the table
debt collection and stealing. or should i also include: panhandling.

so why not take your friend or your niece/nephew under your wing, supply
them with their medication they need to get buy outof your own pocket
(because people desperately needing their medication, just like food, will
steal from you to get it). and watch them get jobs and go about their
lives, free of the worry about howto pay to medicate themselves.

my insulin is %100 government funded.
if i coudln't afford it, i'd steal from you to get it.
