Not in first and second world nations in modern times, except perhaps 
in Cuba, and that is in question.

But nearly all early and tribal peoples lived in a Communism of sorts.

We evolved to do so, and to yield to the group will and rely on each
other, that is where we got our position as chief species on this rock.

Individual humans before industry, technology, and especially automatic
weapons, died a lot alone. It wasn't safe, and we as individuals are
the most weak and vulnerable among animals!
