Not being a geneticist myself - I can't really comment, but they seem confident that there is a genetic component. However, I know two boys in the same family: one shows ADHD symptoms and the other is the perfect child - a year ahead of the rest of his class. I'll let you guess which one is the elder child. Therefore I guess that ADHD is a condition with several causes, and that a treatment in one case may not work in another case. Which means that what you said about dysfunctional families may be true in some cases. The rest of what you said is bullshit. The family I referred to (with the ADHD kid) is in no way dysfunctional. They may have made a few mistakes in bringing up one of their kids but I hardly think that banging them up would solve anything.
