Actually it might surprise you to learn that in my new adopted field,
professional cooking, the use of soft drugs is as common as the lack
of drug testing.
And we wrangle 80 lbs stock pots full of boiling water, razor shart
knives, red hot sizzle platters, blowtorches, gallons of 400 degree
oil, etc.. All with only minor injuries.
After a day in the restaurant, when I read that say Target or Walmart
wants to drug test *all* its employees (save those in management who
have clout) regardless of their particular function, it's obvious that
testing pertains not to safety or liability but in part to trying to
reduce healthcare costs, and, more importantly, showing employees and
potential employees just who the boss is and just how much power he
has.
