It could have been worse. The ACLU and 3 judges on the US 9th Circuit tried to cancel the recent California based on a dubious theory that the Diebold equipment was somehow better than punch-cards. It would have been one of a very few times that an election in progress had been cancelled in progress in any Western democracy. The court was fooled by some snake-oil arguments (or more likely, the court chose to adopt some snake-oil arguments for partisan political reasons).
