Yes there is one very glaring omission in your brief summation: George Bush was Elevated to the president by the Electoral College that met on December 14 to elect the president. The supreme court wasn't even in session. The electoral college is made up 535 electors, Each state is granted the number of electors equal to its representatives in the house and the senate. (This gives small population states, such as Wyoming, Montana, North and South Dakota a disproportionate advantage. So much for your one man one vote idea as one vote counts more in Wyoming than in California.). The election of the electoral college when 270 for Bush and 264 for Gore If I remember right. If 4 of the electors that voted for Bush could have been persuaded to change their votes because of voting irregularities then Gore would have won by 1 vote. (remember that investigation into voting irregularities cuts both ways, as polls in heavily democratic areas of Missouri, which were supposed to close at 8:00 PM by state law were ordered to stay open until 10:00 PM and voting irregularites in place like Oregon (Vote by mail, where 1000's are registered to vote in Washington, Multinomah and Clackamas counts at the same time, (and there is not cross checking and these are the democratic counties) with the rest of the state heavily republican, (Bush lost oregon by 5000 votes most of them fraudulent, as well as may be a much as 2000 votes collected at a Republican rally in Portland by unknown people (most likely democratic operatives) were never counted, and being that the Governor, and Attorney General of Oregon are Democratic party hacks no investigation was ever launched. At any rate the whole presidential election in Oregon ws so flawed it should have been thrown out costing Gore 7 votes in the electoral college.
