engaged in similar dirty tricks?

That's not accurate, but I'll just let you believe that it is.  In my
experience, many right-wingers are immune from factual persuasion and
prefer the safety and comfort of their simplistic zeitgeist and
world-view (not necessarily you personally), so it is both pointless and
tiresome to waste the effort.
