1/ BATTERY EGGS IN VEGGIE PRODUCTS
A new RSPCA survey has revealed that 80 per cent of supermarkets, including
Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco, use battery eggs in their own-brand products
labelled 'suitable for vegetarians'.

The RSPCA believes this could come as a shock to the estimated four million
vegetarians living in the UK - many will have chosen a vegetarian diet
because they do not want to eat foods derived from cruel farming methods.

Click on the link below to find out if your favourite supermarket or
vegetarian food manufacturer uses battery eggs in their vegetarian products
and how you can take action to support the RSPCA’s campaign against
battery cages:

2/ HUNTING BAN
The RSPCA is pressing the government to reintroduce the Hunting Bill in the
next session of parliament, after it was wrecked in the House of Lords.

It is crucial that pressure is kept up to ensure the government fulfils its
manifesto commitment to "enable parliament to reach a conclusion on this
issue" (Labour party general election manifesto 2001).

You can help by sending an e-mail to Tony Blair asking him to reintroduce
the Hunting Bill in the next session of parliament, which begins with the
Queen's Speech on 26 November. E-mail the prime minister

3/ PRIMATE RESEARCH
More primates could be subjected to the pain and distress of experiments at
a new scientific research centre in Cambridgeshire, which has just been
granted planning permission by the government after being turned down twice
by South Cambridgeshire District Council.

The RSPCA would like to see an end to primate use and the replacement of
primate experiments with humane alternatives. The Society is currently
campaigning for an end to the suffering involved with the supply and
transport of primates used in research.
