Re: This Year, Give An Adopted Polar Bear!

Maybe if you try fasting for a week?

Only the lower orders have fasting as part of their religion.

Ahhh, I agree. I also encourage you to read my response to the thread entitled "An Ahimsa ThanXgiving - Fast 2003" in alt.food.vegan. A brief example of my exchange with a pseudo-Hindu "convert" on the subject of fasting (which is her preference along with shunning her parents and family on a day of celebration and feasting):

OP> Spiritually, it also cleanses the soul.

us: Spiritually, we're also told to respect our elders (e.g.,
family), and to feast at times of feast. If one is going to
fast, one should do it before or following such feasts.

OP> Originally, fasting was used to 'get closer to the higher being.'

us: No, you misread the scriptures to suit your sanctimony and
        impiety.
...

OP> My fasting tradition has came about when I could no longer go to
OP> family gatherings for this 'holiday' and sit around a table infested

        us:Just as I noted above. It's a self-righteous act of
        self-alienation.

OP> Even the 'religious' holidays were laughable

us: So you also disrespect tradition. This not surprising given
your neo-nihilism masquerading as some form of Hinduism. Real
Hindus respect Christ even if you don't.

I doubt she'll be considerate enough to respond. She seemed more interested in promoting her perverse "religious" views and her Yahoo! discussion lists than anything else.
