1/ FIREWORKS
A huge thanks to all of you who signed our fireworks petition calling on the
government to help stop the distress fireworks cause to animals.
With help from TV's Top Gear presenter Louise Brady, the 90,000 signatures
collected via our website, volunteers and Guide Dogs for the Blind, were
presented to Downing Street on 4 November.
The government is currently considering how to control fireworks using its
new powers under the Fireworks Act passed in September.
We now need to show the government exactly how this year's bonfire night has
affected animals. Please help by contacting us via the 'Your experiences'
page, at:
www.rspca.org.uk/fireworks
2/ WHALE KILLING
Iceland has stopped its whaling for this year, having killed 36 minke
whales. It's the first time the island nation has slaughtered whales in 15
years.
Although Iceland killed two less minke whales than it said it would this
summer, whale meat is still being stockpiled as people don't seem to want it
and Japan has shown no sign of buying it.
Iceland intends to continue its two-year programme of killing 500 whales
next year. You can help our whaling campaign by e-mailing Iceland's prime
minister.

3/ MICROCHIPPING
November is National Microchipping Month and the RSPCA is holding cut-price
events up and down the country.
Microchipping is painless and permanently links a pet with its owner -
increasing the chances of them being reunited should the animal become lost,
stolen or stray.
Thousands of pets are lost every year and many never see their owners again.
