1/ FIREWORKS
As bonfire night approaches we are making one last push to boost our
petition calling on the government to help reduce the distress fireworks
cause to animals, before presenting it to Downing Street on 4 November.

Although we now have a new law to control fireworks, the government must put
regulations in place to make it enforceable.

Please forward this e-mail to anyone you feel may be willing to add their
name to our petition, so that we can demonstrate the urgent need for action.

We have also added extra pet care advice and information on low-noise
fireworks to our campaign area.

Find full details and sign our petition at:

2/ BATTERY HENS
Latest figures from the government show that free-range egg sales have
increased in the last year - a clear sign that more consumers are voting for
animal welfare.

The RSPCA is urging consumers not to buy battery eggs, as part of its
campaign calling on the UK government to ban all battery cages.

Read our Uncaged egg pledge survey and see how supermarkets and retailers
rank in their commitment to welfare-friendly systems for laying hens. It
will help you put hens first the next time you go shopping.

3/ HUNTING BILL
As expected the Lords have amended the Hunting Bill at committee stage to
allow hunting with dogs to continue under a registration scheme.

Before the bill entered the Lords, it banned all deer hunting, hare hunting,
hare coursing, fox-hunting and mink hunting.

To ensure hunting is consigned to the history books once and for all it is
vital the government reintroduces the bill in the Queen's Speech on 26
November 2003, so that the Parliament Act can apply and the Lords no longer
frustrate the will of the elected chamber.

If your MP supports a ban, please urge them to keep up pressure on the
government to reintroduce the bill.
