Re: Call To Ban All Fishing In 1/3 Of World's Seas

Bullshit. The fishing industry wants sustainability and profits. What
good is a profit today if there's no chance of one tomorrow? That's
why
the fishing industry is working for sustainable practices.

Sustainable practices in the fishing industry? Get off the glue buddy!!

Yes, sustainable practices. Fishermen realize their livelihood is limited -- in time and income -- if their quarry isn't sustainable.

Crap. Some fishermen what sustainability. Some what whatever they can

get.

ALL fishermen want sustainability. Why would they be in and remain in an
industry, making large investments in capital (boats, nets, etc.) and
labor, if they faced *no* future in it?

All fisherman might want sustainability but that doesn't mean that fishing
industry is sustainable by any means.

You're painting with that old broad brush. Fishing IS sustainable, and certain segments of the industry have already made the corrections necessary for sustainability.

etc.

The problem is that the industry is
now controlled by large corporations who must make a larger profit each
year.

Wrong. The problem is some countries routinely overfish areas for domestic consumption AND exports. One of the biggest culprits is China.

How do you increase profits?

Easiest way: make sure supply does not meet demand, so market price is always higher than equlibrium price.

Well one way is to fish more
efficently,..which actually means that you use less fisherman in bigger
factory ships scooping up large amounts of fish.

You're talking out of your big, fat ass. Efficiency DOES help to increase profits, but creating more supply than demand wipes out those profits since price will always fall.

I'm sure the fishing
industry will continue for most of our lifetimes,..it's just that you're
going to be eating fish that we used to consider crap fish.

I don't eat fish, crap or otherwise. Fishing will continue, and everything will be just fine.
