Very different from the Indian system. A Shadchan does set up matches, but the parties involved have to like each other. It is done as adults, not children. (I don't think Jews ever set up marriages for children.) I know people who have had a matchmaker set things up. In the some of the orthodox community they don't have long courtships. One fellow flew out to meet his prospective bride. He spend an hour with her. He then asked for another hour. They have been together for years now. Now this is not quite as crazy as it seems. The matchmaker does not put people together randomly, they learn lots about both parties before making a suggestion.
