I'm new to this thread, and it's astounding how many messages I
scrolled through, to finally see this answer (Nat Hentoff).  As you
may know, Hentoff is an atheist Jew who happens to be prolife, and
writes about the subject in the Village Voice -- which means that many
of his colleagues don't even speak to him, because the Village Voice
isn't exactly the most conservative free newspaper in the world.

Speaking personally, I think atheists have the most compulsion, of any
belief system, to be 'prolife.'
