That's the right verse (2 Kings 2:23-24 NAB). Here it is from the New
American Bible: "From there Elisha went up to Bethel. While he was on his
way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him. "Go up
baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!" The prophet turned and saw them,
and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two shebears came out of
the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces.

The Skeptics Annotated Bible uses the King James Version which is so old
that it is hard to understand. Cut and paste the quotes to prove that they
are actually in the Bible. Many Christians won't believe you and won't look
it up either.

Cut and paste the quotes to prove that they are actually in the Bible. Many
Christians won't believe you and won't look it up either.

This passage does not explicitly state that God sent the bears, but it is
clearly implied. If he needs more proof just quote Jesus: "For everyone
who asks, receives" (Luke 11:10).

It appears that that Christian is trying the two prong defense. (God didn't
send the bears and God was right in attacking the kids.) When he starts
losing one argument he will shift back to the other argument. They can go
on like this for years. Try to stick to one of the arguments and get him to
agree that it is incorrect. Then attack the other argument. Many
Christians believe that 2 half-truths equals one full truth.

Also ask him if it would be morally acceptable for a guy named Joe to kill
42 kids under the same circumstances.
