It does seem obvious, doesn't it?  What would a non-idealogue sound
like on the battlefield?  "I'm gonna kill you because...well, I dunno.
I don't believe in anything worth killing for."  Then he gets cut down
and his dying thought is "Oh, yeah!  Self-defense!  Forgot about that
one..."
