Palacio de Deao case in Quepem reverted to civil court

QUEPEM, NOV 22 (HC) The mediation proceedings in the Palacio de Deao case have failed, 
compelling the matter to be reverted to the civil court at Quepem. It may be recalled 
that a Canon of the cathedral Chapter Fr Assuncao had challenged the lease deed 
executed by Fr Benjamin Fernandes in respect of the Palacio de Deao in favour of one 
Ruben Vasco de Gama.

As per the joint application filed by both the parties on March 29, and as per the 
consent of both the parties, the court had appointed Dr Alvaro de Pereira, retired 
judge of district court, as the mediator.

In his report submitted to the court, the mediator had stated that mediation was not 
possible as both parties maintained their stand in the suit and none prepared to make 
the smallest concession despite every effort to persuade the parties to arrive at an 
amicable settlement.
