When VVIPs make mere mortals see red...

MARGAO, NOV 19 (By Guilherme Almeida) Sometimes, locals have to put up with
inconveniences when overzealous officials leave nothing to chance to receive a head of
State.

This was realised by motorists and commuters in Margao this evening as serpentine
queues of vehicles were noticed on all sides of the old market area.

It so happened that the Prime Minister of Mauritius was to travel by Margao at around
4.30 pm to his destination at a beach resort in Cavelossim.

Accordingly, the traffic police closed all traffic nearly 15 to 20 minutes prior to
the arrival. However, the motorcade arrived only at around 4.50 pm and by that time,
hundreds of vehicles were left stranded on all the four approaches to the Old market
area.

One could see the queue of vehicles touching the Gomant Vidya Niketan from the old
market area. And, it took another 20 minutes for the police to clear the traffic from
the narrow and congested Margao roads.

Last year, the people of Benaulim had to undergo similar hardships during the visit of
Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajapee, not only on the traffic front, but from the
security point of view as well.
