Now Schröder has destroyed the last shred of respect I had for the guy. Not only did he call for a stop to the weapon embargo against the People's Republic of China instituted after the massacre at Tiannanman Square, he also voiced his full support for the position of the PRC in the question of reuinification with Taiwan. I realize that some amount of pandering is necessary for a market as big as China. But let's remember that the PRC is still a dictatorship. When the Chinese government orders another massacre against protestors with rightful complaints, do we really want them to do it with German weapons? And if the PRC really does attempt to invade Taiwan, as they have threatened to do numerous times, do we really want to stand aside and applaud them? Schröder has attempted to stay on the moral high ground before and during the Iraq war. But what he has said and done this week has made it abundantly clear that morals are the least of his concerns. -- - Jürgen Hubert Doing Time in Munich Military Diaries III, or: Bavarian Barkeeper http://juergen.the-huberts.net
