Strive for implementation of four-nation summit on economic
cooperation strategy

The Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Thailand Summit on Economic Cooperation
Strategy was successfully held on 12 November at the Bagan
Archaeological Zone in Mandalay Division.

The plan to cooperate in the implementation of the four-nation
economic strategy was proposed by the Prime Minister of Thailand and
the other three nations unanimously approved it.

The work coordination meeting for implementation of the economic
cooperation strategy among Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand was
held in Yangon on 28 November and it was attended by Prime Minister
General Khin Nyunt.

In his address the Prime Minister said, "The future work programmes
prescribed in Economic Cooperation Strategy among Cambodia, Laos,
Myanmar and Thailand are massive, covering the tasks to be implemented
by all four nations as well as by the two nations concerned.
Therefore, if the four nations actively participate in the tasks, the
momentum of economic development will be gained all the more."

The success of the summit on Economic Cooperation Strategy will
contribute a lot not only towards the economic development of the
respective nations but also towards the ASEAN.

As the development tasks prescribed in the strategy have been focused
on development of border areas, they will benefit the people living in
the border areas of the four nations.

Economic development in the border areas will contribute to the
realization of the objective to ensure the emergence of peaceful and
tranquil border areas, the goal of the four nations.

In addition, it will help reduce border problems likely to crop up
between any two nations and further enhance trust and understanding
among peoples of the four nations.

We would like to urge all the ministries concerned and respective work
committees to seriously address themselves to the implementation of
agreements reached at the Summit on Economic Cooperation Strategy
among Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.
