(1) Senior General Sends Message of Felicitations to Islamic Republic of
Mauritania

On the occasion of the Independence Day of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania,
which falls on 28 November 2003, Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the
State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar has sent a message
of felicitations to His Excellency Mr. Maaouya Ould Sid Ahmed Taya, President
of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

(2) PM Sends Felicitations to Islamic Republic of Mauritania

On the occasion of the Independence Day of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania,
which falls on 28 November 2003, General Khin Nyunt, Prime Minister of the
Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency Mr.
S'Ghair Ould M'Bareck, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

(3) Information Minister Receives Guests

The Minister for Information received President of Shin Satellite Public Co Ltd
of Thailand 
Dr. Nongluck Phinainitisart and party at the former's office in Yangon on 27
November. They discussed matters relating to cooperation in broadcasting of
Myanma Radio and TV programmes.

(4) Ambassador Accredited 

The Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar
has appointed U Ohn Thwin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the
Union of Myanmar to the People's Republic of Bangladesh as Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Union of Myanmar to the Republic of
South Africa.

(5) 210 Drug Cases Exposed, 289 Culprits Arrested in October

The Tatmadaw (Defence Services), Myanmar Police Force and the Customs
Department exposed 210 drug-related cases in October, 2003. Seizures made by
them were 19.3158 kilos of opium in 30 cases, 4.4816 kilos of heroin in 54
cases, 10.2546 kilos of opium oil in four cases, 0.9788 kilo of low grade opium
in 17 cases, 5.6341 kilos of marijuana in 15 cases, 13 litres of Phensedyl in
two cases, 61,068 stimulant tablets and 0.0721 kilo of stimulant powder in 50
cases, 0.0882 kilo of speciosa in two cases, 20 bottles of Byuprenophine
injection in one case, 136.382 litres of chemical liquid in one case, 27 cases
for failure to register, and seven other cases. Action was taken against 289
culprits-- 234 men and 55 women--in 210 drug cases in October, 2003.
